Movies you didn’t give a Chance: A Perfect Getaway
Posted on December 14, 2009 by Zack Gehin with 51 views

A Perfect Getaway is a 2009 thriller starring Milla Jovovich (The Fifth Element, Resident Evil), Timothy Olyphant, and Steve Zahn it was directed and written by David Twohy. A Perfect Getaway was released August 17th, 2009 and had gross revenue of 20 million dollars. The movie received a bunch of mixed reviews from critic and with its minor success this joins the Movies you didn’t give a Chance billboard!
I remember back a few months ago when this movie was opening in theaters I debated with myself for a bit, to see it or not to see it, well I decided it probably wouldn’t be worth my nine dollars so I passed. To me A Perfect Getaway seemed to be a lot like the 2006 film Touristas, which I also did not see. Touristas plot was based around a group of backpackers stranded on an island and horrible things start to happen. A Perfect Getaway is about a newly wed couple backpacking on an island in Hawaii when they find out a murderer might be on their tail. So my assumption was pretty good to pass but was terrible to judge the movie based on my judgment of Touristas.
A Perfect Getaway is about a young newly wed couple, Cliff and Cydney, and they are on their honeymoon in Hawaii. They decide they want to hike a trial on an uninhabited island to the perfect beach ever. As they are on their way to the trail they come across two suspicious hitchhikers, a straggly hippy looking couple. They end up lying to the couple and don’t give them a ride. Once they start the trail Sydney has a near death experience on a cliff but is miraculously saved by Nick (Timothy Olyphant) who is on his way to meet up with his girlfriend. The trio continues on and comes across a group of girls who are freaking out because they heard about a murder of a newly wed couple on an island not to far away. Despite the fact the trio continues on, but only to begin to question each other’s motives.
The plot seems to be very general and not very thought out at first but once you see the movie you will be in shock. You will never be able to predict what will happen, the movie has the best twist of the year. This film isn’t just another watch a bunch of young people have sex, do drugs, and then be brutally murdered it is so much more than that. The movie is truly suspenseful and you will start caring for the characters. I will be purchasing this movie in the near future and highly recommend this for a night with your friends or girlfriend/boyfriend. A Perfect Getaway is officially movie #2 in Movies you didn’t give a Chance!
